Why Woo Woo Works

DR DAVID HAMILTON, PHD

We have lost count of the number of times David has been our guest speaker and workshop facilitator over the past 13 or so years, during which time he has published 11 books, the latest of which is the title of tonight's talk - Why Woo-Woo-Works.   David's knowledge of the Mind, Body, Spirit connection has grown tremendously with all the research he has undertaken over that time.   As a good number of our members and guests are practicing therapists, and whilst we just 'know' that they work, it is wonderful to now have the science behind why they work.  David delivers his knowledge simply and with humour.  He is a very engaging speaker and we are thrilled he has agreed to travel down from Scotland to be our speaker in November.  This will be a wonderful evening.

The dictionary definition of woo-woo is 'unconventional beliefs regarded as having little or no scientific basis, especially those relating to spiritiuality, mysticism and alternative medicine'.

In this talk David will show that much of what we call woo-woo is actually true-woo!  there is a surprising amount of science available, but  most of it is only known those researching in the specific fields.

David will discuss how belief shifts brain chemistry, how different styles of meditation impact us in different ways, even how negative emotions can 'trap' in the body and lead to illness.

He will also discuss how nature can heal, and even share the research behind reiki and how typical 'biofield' therapies actually work.   He will also talk about the three distinct ways that  crystals can help us.

David will also discuss the research on prayer and distant healing and the seeming connections between people who are separated by a distance, and suggest the 'secre' ingredient that increases the strength of our compassionate intentions for others.

Venue: Solihull Methodist Church, Blossomfield Road, Solihull, B91 1LG

Solihull Methodist Church is situated close to the centre of Solihull in the West Midlands. It is located right next to the town’s railway station, at the junction of Blossomfield Road and Station Approach. We have a large car park, including a number of dedicated disabled parking spaces, with the car park entrance in Station Approach. If using a SatNav to direct you, the postcode is B91 1LG.  Why not car share, not only is it good for the environment, but it gives you time to chat with like minded people.

Whilst the venue has excellent parking facilities, we could very well have a large turnout for this talk. Fortunately, approx 400 yds away there is a sports centre with free parking (and lots of it) after 6pm.

NEW MEETING VENUE

22 October 2021

Please note that our meeting venue has now changed from the Oliver Bird Hall, Solihull to Solihull Methodist Church or Church Hall.   We will advise nearer the time of the November talk which one we will be in.   There are car parking facilities on site and whether we have the Church itself or the Church Hall we should be very comfortable (and warm in winter).

We are excited about this change of venue.  It should be just as convenient for people, and if anyone wants to use the train, it is nearby Solihull train station.
